Nowadays, mathematics is playing a more and more important role in science and our daily life, which makes its educational value clearer. But many students meet some difficulties in their learning process, which not only affects their academic development but also hinders their all-round development.In order to study the causes and transformative strategies, this paper makes a study on Senior One students in Wulian Middle School of Shandong with the method of literature, questionnaire and interview. Through the research, this paper divided the reasons for producing so many hard-learnt students in math into two aspects: internal and external factors. The former includes intelligent factor, knowledge base and non-intelligent factor. The later mainly comes from the school(single exam-oriented educational mode, teaching materials and methods), the teacher(teaching views, teacher-student relationship) and the family. According to the causes and the characteristics of hard-learnt students, this paper demonstrates the transformative measures from the four aspects: students’ physiology, learning emotion, learning method and learning ability. The paper made an empirical transformative research on the four typical representatives. In the process of the study, I found that if the transformative effects were obvious, the non-intelligent factors as well as the proper training in learning method should be focused on firstly; if the non-intelligent factors were not enough, the effects would not be obvious, resulting in the low efficiency in the following steps.Through the empirical research, the investigation and analysis on causes of Senior One hard-learnt students, the following suggestions are proposed in this paper: strengthening the understanding of mathematical concepts, reinforcing the training of mathematical skills, stressing the permeation of mathematical thinking method in teaching; paying attention to the cultivation of non-intelligent factors; early interposing the students poor at mathematics.
