On the basis of theory of self-identity, this paper focused on the study of self-identity of pharmacy majors during their higher vocational education. This study tried to find the characteristics related to self-identity of these students as well as the strategy to promote their sense of self-identity, which is expected to improve the quality of higher vocational education for medical students.Based on literature research, both the method of interviews and questionnaire surveys have been applied to students and teachers in Shanghai Institute of Health Sciences. The following conclusions have been obtained:(1) Self-identity of higher vocational students majoring in pharmacy is not generally low, while most of their self-identity is in the forming period, which provides feasibility to increased their sense of self-identity. (2) Higher vocational students majoring in pharmacy is not inconsistent to accept their role as higher vocational students. With positive attitude, they want to be helped and recognized, which offers a good foundation to promote their self-identity. (3) National policy plays an important role in improving higher vocational students’self-identity, which is expected to offer basic support. (4) The higher vocational colleges should take the main responsibility to improve the higher vocational students’self-identity. In order to achieve this goal, the construction of curriculum and teaching should be strengthened. (5) Teachers, major and students are the three main factors that can be applied to improve the students’ self-identity in higher vocational colleges.Combined with the conclusion, this paper stated the strategy to improve the higher vocational students’ self-identity on four aspects including the state, school, teachers and students. This study focused on the strategies of curriculum and teaching. It is expected that the two strategies offered are innovative.
