Since the mid-20 th century, the case fatality rate of cancer, merely ranking after cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, has risen to the second position of life-threatening diseases due to intensified aging of population, environmental changes and other factors in China. Although the medical system reform in China alleviates some economic pressure for cancer patients, negative emotions generated in related patients and families as well as their abilities of reintegrating into the society require concerns of professional institutes and social elites. Within the scope of medical treatment and public health, medical social works start to intervene in cancer patients and major care provider groups, to whom social workers provide professional services targeting their disease sufferings and mental stresses. However, it is believed in the scope of traditional ideology, which starts from the perspective of problems and focuses on how to provide patient-oriented social work services in hospitals, that to solve disease-caused various negative problems is the task of medical social works.During late 1980 s, “User Participation” started to be the formal guiding principle for social work services; as the value of social work practices emphasized “client self-determination”, one role and function of social workers was to guide service users to make decisions within alternatives. In medical social works, importance should be paid to involvements of cancer patients, therefore, to weaken their fear of death effectively, to treat life and death properly, to relieve disease-caused pains by participating in interactions, and to improve quality of life. Meanwhile, the attitudes of main care givers, the most necessary life and mental supporters for cancer patients, to cancer patients also pose direct impacts on patients’ emotions, mental conditions, willingness to receiving treatments and therapeutic effects. Therefore, participations of main care givers in the field of medical social works are also significant.Professional knowledge and skills of social works are applied in this paper to guide users to participate in stages including selection of scheme, implementation of scheme, evaluation of scheme and conclusion, to be dedicated to upgrading self-efficiency and improving unhealthy emotions, and to provide effective and comfortable services to patients and their main care givers who are facing multiple difficulties, therefore, exploring a set of “User Participation”-based effective service system for the field of medical social works and improving qualities of professional services.
