Compared with formal groups, informal groups exist in high schools, especially in rural ones. Informal groups are a force that we should attach great importance to, which has profound effects on the regulations of the class, school and students’ physical health as well as their mental health, including positive effects and negative ones. Focusing on the College Entrance Examinations, leaders and teachers ignore the informal groups and treat negative informal groups violently. Furthermore, they aren’t able to turn negative informal groups into positive ones, which prevents the development of students and has a bad influence on the education. Therefore, it is significant for us to have a better understanding of informal groups and lead them to contributing to the formal ones.In order to investigate, analyze and manage the informal groups, the author selects 194 students in senior 2 of Chengdu Jitian Middle School to be the research objects, draws a conclusion from the related theories and documents, employs three research methods, including document research, questionnaire and interview, and makes a survey about the definition, characteristics, causes and effects, types, the positive and negative effects of the informal groups at Chengdu Jitian Middle School, which provides real facts and lays a practical basis for the research.In addition, by analyzing the management of informal groups at Jitian Middle School, the author holds the view that the disadvantages are supposed to attach great importance to, such as neglecting the informal groups, treating them in an unfriendly way, ignoring their positive effects, making little use of the core figures and taking it for granted that negative informal groups have no advantages.What’s more, the author puts forward a series of strategies that can help the informal groups play an active role in classes and schools,which includes building up a bridge between teachers and students for they are equal, satisfying the inner needs of the informal groups, helping them inspire their positive motivation, paying more attention to the core figures and assisting the informal groups communicate with each other and cooperate in a harmonious atmosphere.In conclusion, treating the informal groups correctly and adopting the strategies in the research will be a great help to the quality in education and be guidance to the management of the informal groups at senior high school in rural areas.
