Homework Management And Its Related Factors Of Middle School Students With Mathematics Learning Difficulties

Homework management means that students use all kinds of strategies to control and adjust the environment and themselves in order to finish home work better and it is closely related with meta-cognition and self-regulated learning. Homework management has good benefit for students to develop good learning habits and lay foundation for their future life and work.This study contained three parts:to begin with, the author explored the applicability of middle school students Homework Management Scale in China. Then, used Homework Management Scale as a tool to explore the relationship between homework management and learning achievement. On the basis of comparing the homework management between students with mathematics learning difficulty and students with high achievement at mathematics, exploring the homework management characters of students with mathematics learning difficulty. At last, the author investigated the related factors of homework management of students with mathematics learning difficulty. The results showed as follow:(1) Homework Management Scale had a good applicability of middle school mathematics in China, and its reliability and validity reached a feasible level.(2) the homework management level of students with mathematics learning difficulty was low (M<3), the total score of their homework management and the scores of environment management, time management, motivation monitoring and emotion management of students with mathematics learning difficulty were significantly lower than those of students with high achievement at mathematics. But for distractor inhibition, there did not exist significant differences. And for students with mathematics learning difficulty, there was no significant grade and gender difference. But for students with high achievement at mathematics, there were existed significant gender difference in time management and motivation monitoring, boys scored higher than girls.(3) homework management was closely positive correlated with mathematics achievements, students with high score of homework management tended to have a higher score of mathematics test.(4) on the whole, homework management was closely correlated with the interest of homework, the learning-orientated reason of homework purpose understanding, mastery goal-orientation, and achievement goal-orientation, parents’involvement and students’idea of teachers’feedback. And it was not significantly related with peer-orientated reason and adult-orientated reason of homework purpose understanding.(5) on each dimension, environment management was strongly correlated with homework interest, homework mastery goal-orientation and achievement goal-orientation, homework interest was an important predictive factor. Time management and emotion management had a positive correlation with homework interest, learning-orientated reason and peer-orientated reason of the homework purpose understanding, and mastery goal-orientation and achievement goal-orientation of homework goal-orientation, and parents involvement and students’ idea of teachers’feedback, Learning-orientated reason and mastery goal-orientation could predict time management, achievement goal-orientation and parents’ involvement could predict emotion management. Distractor inhibition significantly correlated withadult-orientated reason and peer-orientated reason, and had no significant relation with other factors, peer-orientated reason and distractor inhibition could significntly predict the distractor inhibition of students with mathematics learning difficulty. Motivation monitor had significant relation with every factor, and learning-orientated reason, mastery goal-orientation and peer-orientated could predict it.Parents and teachers of students with mathematics learning difficulty should pay more attention to their homework management and use all kinds of methods to improve it.
