Since 2008, Taiwan’s universities have followed American and British boarding schools, founded the new residential colleges within the universities. To train students’ comprehensive ability and realize all-round education of the universities’ ideals,these university colleges combine general education with accommodation and set up abundant activities and courses.The wind of building residential colleges in Taiwan’s universities is affected by many reasons, including the change of social demand for talents, Taiwan’s government’s effective measures,the existent dilemma in higher education, native and foreign university ideas.Currently, a total of 23 university colleges in Taiwan, in the process of establishment and development, have formed their own characteristics, promoting the development of Taiwan’s higher education. Because of short time,Taiwan’s universities are still learning the ropes around here. On the one hand, residential colleges are well received by the college students’ and teachers’.On the other hand,the residential colleges have also been concerned by people outside residential colleges even questioned. College students believe that college is an interactive communication platform, a close mutual family, also a test and growth furnace.College teachers think the establishment and development of the residential colleges is quite difficult, but they firm to work in the colleges and believe the colleges’ future development will be spirit. Meanwhile, outside the college teachers and students, parents have a questioned and indifferent attitude to these residential colleges.This paper has chosen six typical Taiwan’s residential colleges, through the comparative method, literature method and interview method, summarizes the current characteristics and problems of them. At present, Taiwan university colleges’ present features are: Firstly, the top-down organizational planning, huge manpower investment; Secondly, uphold the whole person education concept, the colleges are small and delicate; Thirdly, rich contents and strict systems of college curriculums; Fourthly, adhere to the principal position of students, pay attention to the teachers’ guidance; Fifthly, the room together and set up the system of student autonomy;Sixthly,build college environment, create a cultural atmosphere. At the same time, the academies facing the following challenges: heart spread, limited funds, awkward college administrative position, shortage of teachers and dormitory resources,crossed courses and activities. The residential colleges,therefore, need to strengthen communication, broaden the channels of funds, make the academy system admitted, college teachers’ specialization, college curriculum activity streamline, harmonious dormitory improvements on the seven resources.At present, the development of mainland university colleges is ascendant. Although there are many differences between mainland and Taiwan’s university colleges, the mainland university colleges can learn from Taiwan university colleges about curricular activities planning and mentoring, dormitory and college planning of the themes.
