Along with the success for bidding for the Olympic Winter Games in our country, and the planning requirements of strengthen the development of China’s ice and snow sports promulgated by the state council, alpine skiing courses was lifted again, and it becomes the key project of teaching in the universities’ compulsory courses in the north. Regardless of the elective courses, compulsory courses or public physical education, alpine skiing is an important component in the courses of Harbin Institute Of Physical Education. But in actual teaching, most universities’ skiing courses in the north carry on some old teaching ideas and methods of traditional teaching mode which leading to neglect the learning ability of the students. The traditional teaching mode blindly followed the methods of " lays down the law " and "teaching type" and "force-feeding", which one-sided emphasis on the students’ intuitive, repeatability and progressive principle. This mode affects the students’ independent personality and the promotion of their learning quality, it also reduces the alpine skiing talent cultivation in colleges and universities. Students have little or no independent space, and lack mutual communication and coordination, no innovation consciousness, lack of team concept and interpersonal skills. They have no sense of innovation and lack the team concept and interpersonal skills.Based on the situation, this study researches and analyzes the aspects of research status at home and abroad, the development trend of teaching mode, the feasibility and constituent elements of small group teaching in alpine skiing and the specific experimental design, which are on the basis of referring to the predecessors’ research results. This study is researched by using the method of documents and materials, expert interview, comparative analysis and so on. Through the research we can draw the conclusion: It is feasible that "small groups" teaching model is applied to the alpine skiing in Harbin sports institute. "Small groups" has certain advantages compared with the traditional teaching model : first, it is more flexible; second, it can help the students create a learning atmosphere of independent and harmony; third, it can inspire the students’ subjective initiative and creative thinking mode; fourth, it keeps up with the pace of education, it evolved into " cage-free " type which strengthen the communication between classmates, and cultivate a good sense of team and the interpersonal communication ability; fifth, it keeps up with education outline in which the students are the dominant and giving full play to their thinking. In addition, the teachers need to clear the elements when the " small groups " teaching is applied in the alpine skiing course. " small groups " should be used with other methods. We hope that this study can provide a beneficial reference for the teaching of alpine skiing courses in Harbin Institute Of Physical Education and other colleges and universities which apply the " small groups " in the ski courses teaching, in order to promote the cultivation of skiing talents in our country and meet the social demand for skiing talents.
