With the rapid development of the multimedia and internet technology, the information technology(IT) has spread to all the world. The IT also gained increasingly broader application in the education field. It is being used in various courses as an important method corresponding with the deepened teaching reform. During recent years, the secondary vocational schools gradually paid attention to the application of the IT in the process of teaching reform, and achieved much higher informatization in the courses of practice and operation. However, most of the professional theory courses still depend on the traditional teaching way, with the boring content, rigid method, single means and low efficiency. Therefore, how to improve the teaching situation of the professional theory courses by the application of the IT to enhance the teaching efficiency becomes an important problem worthy the attention from all the secondary vocational schools.This article studied the application of the IT in the professional theory courses in the secondary vocational schools based on the theoretical study on the integration of the IT into the courses and my own teaching experiences. We elaborated the current teaching situation in the secondary vocational schools, pointed out the various problems and the major reasons that caused these problems. The teaching ability by informatization of the teacher was investigated by questionares and interviews. The current informatization level of the teachers was analyzed by the knowledge and attitude of the teachers towards IT, the informatization capability and level and the ways to improve the teachers’ ability of IT application. The practical cases of the IT application in the professional theory courses were listed by combining my own practical experiences, for example, the multimedia courseware, micro lecture, QQ network teaching the platform of the digitizing sources, IPAD Teaching and Virtual studio system, and the effect was analyzed and discussed. Finally, we provided some suggestions on the further study and practice of the application of IT in the professional theory courses in the secondary vocational schools.
