China has been in the accelerating development phase of urbanization. With the process of urbanization, population and economic activity accelerated focus to urban.Urban spatial form starts the conversion from monomer city to urban agglomeration.Urban agglomeration is an advanced form of urban development.Urban agglomeration offers a greater advantage in all aspects of agglomeration economies, market coordination, resources optimization and so on, it is amore efficient form of regional organization.Hadaqi urban corridor is the most important economic zone of Heilongjiang province, and so are the cities in the middle of Jilin province. It is the trend for these two regions developed into a complete zone called “Ha‐Chang urban agglomeration”. Through the next five chapters, we find that the construction of Ha‐Chang urban agglomeration is necessary and feasible. These are five chapters:Chapter One: Theoretical foundation of urban agglomeration. At first, we explore the origins and development ofthe concept of urban agglomeration. Patrick Geddes—a Scottish scholar used “conurbation” to describe the cities portfolio phenomenon. Chinese scholars also launch in‐depth study of urban agglomeration. The second part of chapter1elaborates the theories of the development of urban agglomeration which include the Friedman four‐stage theory, the growth‐pole theory, the center‐periphery theory and the point‐axis theory. The third part is the research of the planning and construction of urban agglomeration in China.Chapter Two: The scoping and status description of Ha‐Chang urban agglomeration. We scope the area of Ha‐Chang urban agglomeration based on both GDP and population data through qualitative analysis in part I. Ha‐Chang urban agglomeration is composed by eight prefecture‐level cities. In part II, we can check the present situation of the agglomeration by the aspects of location, climatic, economic and population.Chapter Three: Determining the stage of development of the Ha‐Chang urban agglomeration and contrasting to other agglomerations in China. To determine the stage of development of the agglomeration, we use the fuzzy comprehensive judgment method in which there are18indexes. According to the score, the agglomeration is judged to be in the prototype development stage. Ha‐Chang urban agglomeration is compared to other ten agglomerations in part II. And we find that Ha‐Chang falls behind, both in the aspect of GDP and population.Chapter Four: The classification of the cities and point‐axis analysis of the agglomeration. First, we calculate the potential values of25cities by the Potential Model and figure out through ArcGIS. According to the result of cluster analysis in the SPSS, we divide the cities into three categories. The first group include three cities: Herbin, Changchun and Daqing. Jilin City belongs to the second group. And the third group for the rest. Second, we conduct the point‐axis analysis to the agglomeration. We can find the existence of “Z” shaped growth shaft in the agglomeration.Chapter Five: The SWOT analysis and the suggestions of construction of the agglomeration. Combined the results of the previous chapters and the SWOT analysis, we figure out practicable advises including strengthening infrastructure construction, completing the urban system, adjusting the industrial configuration, improving the training of highly qualified personnel, actively managing environmental issues and promoting the cooperation in the executive power.
