In recent years, the rise of high-speed railway has become the focus of public concern.Compared with conventional railway, with such advantages of high speed, safety and comfort,high-speed railway greatly meets the needs of different groups in society and improvesregional accessibility, which has promoted people’s flows among cities, so as to rapidlypromote the overall economic development in areas along railways. With progress of the eraand economic development, many scholars believe that the construction of high-speed railwaywould be an effective way to curb environmental pollution, energy crisis, traffic congestionand other gradually deteriorating issues. This paper outlined relevant theories and academic achievements at home and abroad.Based on these study achievements, the author analyzed the mechanism affected byhigh-speed railway to social economic development along the railway, and summarized theroute of regional economic affected by high-speed railway could be divided into two: One isthe development of other industries brought by the center of high-speed railway, the other oneis the development of high-speed railway has optimized the conditions of regionaltransportation so as to promote the development of passenger transportation and flows ofelements along the areas. Regional economic effects of high-speed railway mainly includedfour parts: regional economic growth-pull effect, industrial agglomeration and diffusion effect,in-one-city effect and employment effect. These effects provided a strong basis for building asystem of analysis of indicators. In this paper, the author used Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway for the study toanalyze the effect of high-speed railway to regional economy in areas along the railways. Bybuilding gray forecast model and according to the data of Statistical Yearbook of previousyears, the author forecasted passenger-transport destiny and goods-transport destiny, theweighted-average-travel time, regional GDP, economic indicators of each industry andcontribution rates in the case of without Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway in2011and2012. Then the author compared those indexes with the cases of operating Beijing-Shanghaihigh-speed railway and obtained the relevant results. Finally, the author concluded that the deficiencies and limitations of this article, as well as policy and recommendations on how topromote economic development in the areas along the high-speed railway.
