The article studied the method that combined the quality improvement and project management skills together, and then use it to control the quality improvement project, which can improve the efficiency and quality of quality improvement projects in transformer factory. The PM technology has been widely used at present, such as using in Construction, Aerospace, Computer, Telecommunication, Finance, etc., but it is in the exploration stage of the application of PM method to manage the quality improvement project in the transformer industry. Some quality improvement methods, likePDCA,6σ DMAIC,4Q, mainly focus on quality improvement, actually the quality improvement projects have the attributes and characteristics of projects, so they are also projects, so the PM methods also can be used to manage quality improvement projects, the tools including:scope management, project planning and controlling, risk management, cost management, quality management, resource management, etc.The article discussed the theory about quality management, project quality control and quality control method used both in china and abroad, the theory about PDCA,6σ DMAIC,4Q and the current situation of transformer industry also be discussed. The article analyzed the current situation of transformer quality control in A factory, then general analyzed the reasons that caused the lower first-pass yield. Defined this quality improvement project as research objective, studied the definition, SOW, WBS, RAM, Milestones of this project, then studied the implementation of the project. The project used4Q method to collect the data, analyzed the root causes of the problem, then developed and verified the actions, sustained the effective actions as documents, instructions, finally, evaluated and concluded the results of the project.During the implementation of the project, Some methods were used to solve the problem, such as ParetoPrinciple, Ratio Test and Confidence Interval Analysis, Correlation Analysis, SMART Principle, etc., The project finished successfully and the obvious effects has been achieved, the FTQ rate increased by10%and the rework rate also decreased drastically, these achievements can help the company saving the cost finally. According to the implementation of this project, the company verified the feasibility of this method andaccumulated rich experiences for transformer industry to use PM method managing the quality improvement projects and hope these experiences can be expand to other industries.
