Metal Fabricators of Zambia Ltd like many other manufacturing companies’ has had a major challenge in effectively managing technical workers.The attempt for the human resource managers to employ strategies and methods that have worked in managing nontechnical workers has proved futile in most cases. Because of this, various problems have been created which the technical workers are facing.The aim of this thesis is to analyze the Human Resource problems faced by Metal Fabricators of Zambia Ltd Company Technical Workers and provide a solution by designing a development Scheme/Plan.Metal Fabricators of Zambia Ltd Development Scheme includes; Job Design, Training and Development and Compensation and Salary System. As Walter Wriston the former chairman and CEO of Citicorp said "If you have the right people in place, you don’t have to do anything else. If you have the wrong person in the job, there’s no management system known to man that can save you."When you compare technical workers to nontechnical workers; the personality, psychological needs, value system and work manner etc, from all the different aspects, technical workers have peculiar characteristics. They possess special technical abilities and high professional qualities. Having received training in the operation of technical systems, technical workers have rich technical knowledge and technical experience. But along with the fast growing technology industry and the improving economy, organizations need very high level technical workers and want new requirements. Therefore if a company wants to remain competitive in today’s global market, it must have high regard for employee training.The Scheme first makes sure that the Technical workers have the right characteristics for technical work. After determining the right people, their jobs are redesigned by enlarging and enriching them, the training and development programs are tailored and made available to meet and develop the needed skills and the compensation system is attached to each job position duties and the salary linked to successful goals and objectives completion. Since the Technical Workers are responsible for the creation of the products that Metal Fabricators of Zambia Ltd enjoys the profits from, it is imperative that the Technical workers remain motivated because motivation leads to involvement and commitment which leads to high performance. With high performance the company can be able to increase efficiency of production and lower the production costs by the dedication that technical workers put into the design, the process, the maintenance of equipment and quality control. Therefore, Metal Fabricators of Zambia Ltd will maintain its competitive advantage and remain successful.By solving the Metal Fabricators of Zambia Ltd technical worker’s problems, I hope other companies with similar problems can also benefit from the Scheme. This will keep the manufacturing companies vibrant which is very important especially for developing countries like Zambia, because these companies contribute to the country’s economy. Also the products produced from manufacturing companies make the lives of the local people better.
