With the reform and development of socialist market economy, the flow of labor force and human resource elements throughout the country increased rapidly. According to the sixth national population census, the expansion rate of inter-provincial migrant population in our country speeds up markedly, especially the job mobility to the developed south areas increased breakthrough. Along with the inter-regional flow, adaptation problem of the cross-cultural employees also has become the topic of psychology and management. Besides, job performance has always been the common goal and focus of individuals and organizations, and the studies are still for long. Due to the cultural interaction and collision between regions increasing, as a cross-cultural adaptability, Cultural Intelligence has become a new direction in the field of performance research and is increasingly influencing cross-cultural employees to live and work.Because the studies about the relationship between Cultural Intelligence and performance aimed at the cultural difference context between the North and South China is relatively less, and few people concerned about the cultural shock phenomenon among the regional culture, in this paper, we propose hypotheses and theoretical models through the integration of previous studies, and use questionnaire survey and date analysis to analyze the effect of cultural intelligence and its four dimensions on cultural shock and individual performance, which based on Earley and Ang’s four-dimensional model and the regional cultural difference context in our country.Data analysis results show that under the cultural difference context between the North and South China, individual cultural intelligence has a significant positive effect on performance and significant negative effect on cultural shock. Among the four dimensions of cultural intelligence only motivational and behavioral dimensions have significant effect on performance and cultural shock. At the same time, cultural shock partly mediated the relationship of cultural intelligence and performance, and cultural shock is regarded as a mechanism of the effect of cultural intelligence on performance. The conclusions indicate that all research hypotheses are verified except hypotheses about meta-cognitive and cognitive dimensions, which support the theoretical model in this paper. Conclusions provide useful suggestions for those cross-cultural employees to improve cultural intelligence so that help them better adapt to the new environment as well as improve job performance. The main innovation point of this article is that we concerned about and based on the local regional cultural difference context and samples to conduct the research, and introduced cultural shock to explain the mechanism between cultural intelligence and performance.
