This report is based on the author's translation of the 2012 Shanghai Educational Annual Report, which describes Shanghai's educational affairs and deployment in 2012. It is true that education has always been a major concern in today's world. Shanghai, as one of the biggest cities in China and even in the world, of course draws a lot of attention in education. Therefore, the English version of the 2012 Shanghai Educational Annual Report plays an important role in building a good public image and communicating with outside world for Shanghai. In the process of translation, however, some problems like Chinglish are still existed due to the impact of Chinese culture and thinking, inadequate understanding of the source text and improper expressions of words and phrases with some typical Chinese connotations.With the English version of 2013 Government Work Report as a reference, under the guidance of Skopos theory, this report examines some translation strategies employed in the 2012 Shanghai Educational Annual Report from the level of words and sentences, based on the stylistic and linguistic features of the text. Through the case study, the report summarizes some feasible translation strategies:information supplement for abbreviations, subject addition and voice conversion for non-subject sentences.To sum up, based on the author's translation practice, this report analyzes the translation of general vocabulary, abbreviations with Chinese connotations, long sentences and non-subject sentences. The author also proposes corresponding ways to deal with them. It is hoped that this report will serve as a reference for future translation of relevant texts.
