A Report On The Translation Of Production Purchasing Global Terms And Conditions(Section 14 To Section 26)

With the economic integration and the acceleration of globalization process, the international trade and international companies expands, which further promotes the global procurement, and the increasing number of multinational companies widens their global sourcing network rapidly to China. During the process, the business contract for production purchasing is necessary, but most of those contracts are English version. So in this context, the English-Chinese translation of the legal contract has a certain impact on the cooperation between the multinational companies and Chinese Companies, and it is of important practical significance to avoid unnecessary contract dispute.This paper is a report on the translation of Production Purchasing Global Terms and Conditions compiled by legal department of Ford Motor Company. The part chosen by the translator are section 14 to section 26, covering the topics of issues involved,documents used, payment terms, delivery, confidentiality, warranty and so forth.Based on the translation theory of Newmark, the paper mainly discusses the English-Chinese translation of business contract text. As the report reveals, Production Purchasing Global Terms and Conditions belongs to the legal business contract which features expressive function. Therefore, texts of this type should be translated with the guide of semantic translation theory.
