| As the world becomes more globalized, communications and exchanges between different countries increase the demand for interpreters. Consecutive interpreting, as one of the major interpreting forms, is widely applied on different occasions. It requires that an interpreter could interpret relatively long speeches within a very short time. Therefore, it is crucial for an interpreter to master the long sentence interpreting skills.The report chooses three speeches as the source texts which are made by New Zealand Prime Minister John Key. The report discusses the importance of the long sentence interpreting and the application of the long sentence interpreting skills. By introducing the background and the features of the interpreting task, the report firstly demonstrates the necessity of the long sentences interpreting. Then, the report describes the interpreting processes, which include the pre-interpreting preparation, interpreting process and post-interpreting quality control. Next, the report introduces the Interpretive Theory and the long sentence interpreting skills coming from this theory. Lastly, the author summarizes the whole interpreting practice by pointing out the problems in the interpreting practice and giving solutions to the problems.The report hopes to show that the long sentence interpreting skills could help an interpreter to deal with the difficulties during interpreting activities. By applying the skills, an interpreter would understand the main idea of a speech more effectively. The long sentence interpreting skills would improve the interpreting quality of an interpreter in future interpreting activities. |
