A Report On The Translation Of Mechanical English

With the development of global economy,there has been a closer connection between China and other countries,and the exchanges in economy,politics,culture and society grow day by day.Thus there is an increasing demand for translation.In these years,the translation of mechanical English plays a much more important role in the society than before.The thesis here is a report on the translation of mechanical English,and a conclusion of the translation practice of the excerpt of Machine Elements in Mechanical Design(Third Edition).It concludes some characteristics of mechanical English,and comes up with several translation strategies.The report is composed of five parts.The first part is the introduction,which explains the background and significance of the report.The second part describes the task from the source of the translation task to the target readers.The third part detailedly describes the translation requirements and process.The fourth part is the case analysis,making a conclusion of the textual characteristics of mechanical English and drawing upon theories about text analysis.On the basis of these two points,the report then lists out several case analysis and brings out several translation strategies,including conversion,addition,omission,retaining the original syntactic order and restructuring.The last part summarizes the whole report,pointing out several research results and some deficiencies in translating.Through the case analysis this report demonstrates the author's understanding and application of translation strategies,added with personal feelings and experience.Though the translation of mechanical English has its own uniqueness,the strategies here can also be applied to other kinds of translation,and the author hopes it will be of some help to other translators.
