In order to follow the forefront of international academic researches,to realize exchanges and interaction between domestic and international academia, and to promote domestic academic self-development,the translation of academic papers plays an extremely important role. This translation practice report is based on an academic paper on cognitive linguistics--Generic Reference in English. In the report, the translator introduces the content of source text, and then analyzes its language features and textual style. Before translation, the translator refers to relevant parallel texts and establishes a glossary. The passive voice and complex sentences is widely used in the source text. Thus, based on Functional Equivalence Theory of Eugene Nida, the report mainly studies the translation methods and skills of the passive voice and complex sentences.Taking in account differences between Chinese and English, the translator mainly uses linear translation, conversion, amplification, following the original syntactic order and reinventing sentence structures to make the translation smoother and more fluent. |
