An Analysis Of Conference Interpreting Techniques

In recent years, conference interpreters are in greater demand in China due to the more frequent communication between China and the rest of the world. In such circumstances, how to enhance the quality of conference interpreting is an issue of significance for interpreters. Study on conference interpreting has been done and is being done by scholars and researchers in and outside China. The author of this thesis is going to explore conference interpreting techniques on the basis of her conference interpreting experience in the Cooperative Program between the University of Edinburgh and CDUT.This thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter gives a brief introduction to the task itself including its background, feature and requirements.Chapter Two presents the implementation process of the task, focusing respectively on preparation before the task, emergency handling and quality control. The third chapter is the main body of this thesis. It focuses on analyzing and summarizing the four E-C conference interpreting techniques the author used in the two conferences of the Cooperative Program between the University of Edinburgh and CDUT by using case study method. Through specific examples, the author illustrates the application of the four interpreting techniques at length. Chapter Four is a reflection of the problems of the practice and a summary of the enlightenment and prospect for future study and work. The author hopes that this thesis can provide some practical guidance to interpreters and some reference for further research in conference interpreting techniques.
