A Practice Report On Chinese Translation Of Passive Sentences In HPV Fight Back

Along with the boost of globalization,medical science,as an indispensable part of national life,is one of the most important contents of Sino-Western communication.Naturally,the translation of medical works is attracting the attention of more and more translators.An original English book concerning the infection and treatment of HPV drew my attention,which is simple and designed for masses of female patients.It can play a certain part in reducing the incidence of cervical cancer by improving women's knowledge of HPV in our country.This practice report first describes the introduction and process of the translation task,and then discusses the Chinese translation strategies of passive sentences in HPV: A Guidebook to Infection with Human Papillomavirus and How to Fight Back through the case analysis.Passive sentences in this book can be categorized as passive sentences with agents,passive sentences without agents and state passive sentences.In order to make the translation more in line with Chinese grammar and expressions,according to the functional equivalence theory of Eugene A.Nida and the characteristics of each kind of passive sentences,the passive sentences can be translated into phrases,active sentences,passive sentences,sentences without subjects and judgment sentences.Besides,the past participle of the English passive sentences can be converted into adjectives and nouns.I hope this practice report can provide some reference for myself and other translators of such texts on translation process and strategies in future.
