With the development of China, cities, as the center local economy and society, have received unprecedented attention. As the urbanization in China develops rapidly, architecture, urban planning and landscape design step into a new phase. It's obvious that further development of urbanization in China will benefit from international communication and exchange. The author translated some key sections of the authentic English textbook Platform 7, into about 10,000 Chinese characters. This translation practice aims to find a proper translation method for informative texts so as to provide a guideline for the translation concerning architecture, urban planning and landscape design in the future. In this report, the author applied the text-category theory and translation theory of Newmark as the theoretical basis. Before the translation, the author carried out a series of preparations, for example, she made a translation plan as well as a technical term list. In the translation process, according to the features of source text, the author grouped it into informative text category, and used communicative translation as the major translation method. After the translation process, the author examined the target text repeatedly to guarantee the quality of translation. In this translation practice, the author encountered various problems, such as the translation of long and complex sentences, the translation of nominalization, and the translation of technical terms, etc. which she tried to solve with communicative translation method. This translation practice proved that communicative translation is an effective method for the translation of informative texts. Through this translation practice, the author not only improved her ability of translating informative texts, but also gained a deeper comprehension of Newmark's theories of text category and translation methods. In addition, in this translation practice, the author also found some defects, like the inaccuracy in the translation of some technical terms and the translationese in the translation of some long and complex sentences. Generally speaking, the author's ability of English-Chinese still needs to be improved.
