With the enhancement of Chinese soft power and the development of international Chinese promotion, the cultural exchanges between China and Eastern European countries flourished, and the enthusiasm for learning Chinese is higher than ever.As one of the earlier countries to start teaching Chinese,Bulgaria has established two Confucius Institutes, they are Confucius Institute in Sofia and Confucius Institute in Veliko Turnovo.Every year,a large number of Chinese volunteers are attracted to Bulgaria, they make it happen that more and more Bulgarians are concerned about China and show their interest in Chinese culture. However,in the collision between Chinese culture and Bulgarian culture, the volunteers have generally found that there are many intercultural communication problems, which has a certain impact on their teaching life in Bulgaria. The author hopes that through the analysis of Bulgaria we can get some universal experience for more Chinese volunteers in other countries. In this dissertation, the author uses case study as the main research method,on the basis of understanding of the situation of Chinese volunteers, the author selected 21 typical intercultural cases to analyze.According to Porter's theory, the cases are classified into perception cases, verbal communication cases and non-verbal communication cases. The perception cases include individualism and collectivism, power distance, small state mentality and cultural taboos. The verbal communication cases include semantic, pragmatic and verbal communication styles.Non-verbal communication cases are divided into body language, time concept and space utilization. On the one hand, the author aims at restoring the truth of intercultural communication, and on the other hand, the author analyzes the causes and sums up the measures of typical intercultural communication cases in Bulgaria. The author get the conclusions as follows:The causes of volunteers' intercultural communication problems in Bulgaria are not only the cultural differences between the two countries, including historical reasons, slow culture and rich body language, but also the subjective reasons for the lack of Bulgarian culture, ethnocentrism and lack of communication strategies. The author also puts forward the corresponding strategies to the Bulgarian volunteers, including the combination of the Romans doctrine and gaining the initiative, strengthening the cross-cultural training, compiling cultural manuals, differentiating the cross-cultural communication of different age groups and paying attention to the bi-directionality of cultural transmission.
