On Chinese-English Translation Of Agricultural Papers From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation Theory

With the implementing of opening-up and reform policy and the rapid advancement of science and technology,China has increased the exchanges of science and technology with foreign countries.So the translation of scientific papers plays a vital role in the development of the society,economy and culture,especially in the exchanges of science and technology with foreign countries.Nowadays,in China,the majority of researches on the translation of scientific papers lie in the field of English-Chinese translation,including the studies about vocabularies,long sentences,logic of discourses and cultural elements,among which the main study focuses on the translation methods of long sentences,such as linear translation,reverse translation,division translation and amplification translation.However,few relevant theoretical studies about Chinese-English translation have been done.This essay carries out the research about Chinese-English translation of an academic paper in the field of agricultural science and technology,On the Plant Improvement Project Conducted by University of Nanking and Cornell University.The translation report consists of 5 parts.The first section is the brief introduction of the translation task,including the introduction,preparation and process of translation.The second section aims to introduce the translation theory,Communicative Translation Theory,and its importance.The third section is to analyze the characteristics of the original text from the aspects of vocabulary,sentence and discourse.The fourth section,the main part of this essay,explains how to use the Communicative Translation Theory to deal with the problems in the Chinese-English translation of scientific papers through specific examples.The translation about vocabulary explains how to deal with terms and part-of-speech;the study of sentence translation focuses on the integration of long and short sentences,the translation of earlier quotations and the translation of sentences with no subject;the translation of discourse pays more attention to the logic.The last section is the summary of the translation practice.
