The E-C Translation Report On A Year In The World:Journeys Of A Passionate Traveler(Chapter 3&7)

This is an English-Chinese translation report on the translation of Chapter 3 and Chapter 7 of A Year in The World:Journeys of A Passionate Traveler,which is written by Frances Mayes,a university professor in San Francisco State University.This book mainly focus on the travel notes of the original text author and her husband in 12 places in Western Europe and Africa.In Chapter 3 and Chapter 7,the writer of the source text narrates the travel notes in Naples,Italy and Burgundy,France respectively.During the journey,the writer of the source text puts her personal perceptions and informal commentary on culture,traditions,culinary,history,literature,art,landscape and architecture of wherever she went.Through the analysis of content and language characteristics,a general understanding of the text can be firstly obtained by the writer of the report.Then the consulting of the background information and parallel texts is also helpful to deeply comprehend the source text.This translation report analyzes the translation difficulties encountered in the text,and discusses the translation methods,which combines the translation methods and practice effectively.The report mainly analyzes the translation difficulties and translation methods.By selecting some concrete examples of the text,this report mainly analyzes the translation of similes and metaphors,dashes and attributive clauses.With the purpose of dealing with the translation difficulties,various translation methods are applied respectively,such as literal translation,free translation,zero transition,translating dashes into words,translating dashes into other punctuations,translating attributive clauses into pre-modifiers,translating attributive clauses into coordinated clauses or adverbial clauses and reorganizing the sentence structure.Finally,this report summarizes the translation practice,which includes translation experience and suggestions for the future translation.
