This translation report deals with the translation of When Breath Becomes Air,which was published in February 4th,2016 and written by Paul Kalanithi. In the form of autobiography, the author describes the process of psychological change from a doctor to a patient. From different perspectives, the author interprets his attitude towards life and death. With its graceful style and sincere feelings, the author conveys his profound thoughts on human nature, life and death, and medical treatment. It depicts the real life,so it is highly readable and popular with all works of life. The reporter chooses the first chapter “In Perfect Health I Begin” with approximately 15,000 words in total. This book has a neat chronology and a tidy denouement.Direct in narration and succinct in the use of word, the author often uses abstract nouns and nominal structures to create an artistic conception.Another significant linguistic style of this article is a large number of long and difficult sentences, which increases the difficulty of reading and translation. The translator analyzes the translation strategies applied to deal with the vocabulary and long sentences in case analysis. In terms of vocabulary, the translator adopts the following strategies: changing the part of speech, specifying the meaning of words in the context, and lexical interpretation. In processing the long sentences, the translator chooses the strategies of structure reinvention and division. This translation task not only improves the author's translation, but also makes the author benefit a lot by writing the translation report. The translator draws a conclusion, which is as follows: First, the translator should have solid basic foundations in both English and Chinese, and the capability of language analysis.Second,in the translation of literary, not only does the translator convey the meaning of the original exactly, but also avoid the destruction of the aesthetics of the original.Third, much attention should be paid to proofreading in translation.
