A Translation Report On Obesity In The Early Childhood Years(chapters Three And Four)

The translator selects Obesity in the Early Childhood Years as the translation task,the report was published by National Academy of Science in the US in June,2016.It focuses on children from birth to 5 years old and aims at providing recommendations for early childhood obesity prevention through the analysis of the effects of some key factors related to childhood obesity such as physical activity,healthy eating,marketing and screen time and so on.As obesity is becoming a growing serious disease,the translator hope that the translation task can provide guidance for childhood obesity prevention in China.The source text is a medical report which aimed at providing advice on childhood obesity prevention.The translation report is based on communicative translation theory,according to Newmark's text typology,the original text features information function.Therefore,it can be guided by the communicative translation theory,which stresses the effect on readers of target language rather than the original words or sentences.Based on the theory,a translator should pay attention to the communicative effect as well as respect the source language text.This report consists of four chapters.Firstly,the translator makes an introduction to the background of the source text,then the translator presents the purpose and significance of the translation task.The second part is the analysis of original text through its content,structure,and linguistic features.The translator also made some after-reading reflections on the source text.The third chapter is the most important part of the report.The translator first introduces Newark's communicative translation theory and text typology,affirming its significance in translation practice.Then,under the guidance of this theory,the translator summaries several translation process,methods and skills employed in this practice.As for the translation process,it is divided into preparation before translation,theoretical guidance and important and difficult points.When it comes to translation skills and methods,several translation methods are adopted and listed.And then,proofreading process is summarized.Lastly,the translator finds out problems in translation process and summarizes lessons from translation task,The translator hopes that the translation report can be of certain value to the translation of medical reports.
