The source text of this translation project is Chapter 1&3 of the book Bitters: A Spirited History of a Classic Cure-all,with Cocktails,Recipes and Formulas, authored by American writer Brad Thomas Parsons. The book gave a brief introduction of the cocktails and bitters, mainly talked about the history, formulas and usage of bitters.Though enumerating and classifying the cocktails which contain bitters, the author elucidated the effect caused by bitters in different cocktails at length.Chapter 1 mainly explains the history of cocktails and Chapter 3 introduces some formulas of common bitters. These two chapters can highly generalize the whole book.Main contents of this report are divided into four parts: Part One is an introduction to the translation project, including project background, significance and structure.Part Two briefly describes the source text, including its author and main content.Part Three is about the translation process, including the difficulties of translation,Nida's functional equivalence theory and the translation methods applied.Guided by Nida's theory, the translator flexibly handles translation difficulties by applying many translation skills such as addition, omission, literal translation, free translation and transliteration to deal with some difficult sentences so as to make the translation version more fluent and natural.Part Four concludes the report with lessons from the translation project and unsolved problems.
