Globalization makes higher demand for a sound legal system to resolve the disputes,in need of drawing experience from international practice.Criminal Law,written by Michael Allen who is a famous British professor,is a magisterial work of legal scholarship in the field of criminal law. This is a report on the translation of the first and second part of Criminal Law.As soon as Criminal Law was published it became popular with the teachers and students in most of the law schools in the Western countries because of its nature of theory and practice.Based on the author's own practice of translating the book, the author has compared the special meaning of legal words or terms with the ordinary meaning of these words in the daily life through some difficult or obscure words and legal terms in Criminal Law firstly. Then the author discusses the translation of the long and complex sentences which are carefully chosen by some methods proposed by the other experts and summarized through her own translation practice.By summarizing the experience and problems of this translation, the author finds that some translation methods have important guiding significance to translation, which may apply to translation practice efficiently, such as free translation, literal translation and word-conversion methods in translating obscure words and legal terms, and methods like amplification, division, combination, reorganization, and omission in translating long and complex sentences. At last, the author hope this translation report will provide some experience for the other legal translators in translating the other works on criminal law.
