The source text of this translation report is excerpted from Triumph and Tragedy(Chapters 8-10)of The Second World War series,which was written by Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill,former British prime minister.The material selected in this report covers the international events from July to September in 1944.The translator participated in a real translation project which aimed at commemorating the 70 th anniversary of the victory of World Anti-Fascist War.This translation report,based on the E-C translation of the book named Triumph and Tragedy(Chapters 8-10),is a detailed description of the whole translation process and reflections after the translation task.Main body of this report can be divided into five parts,namely,introduction of translation task,description of translation task,translation process,case analysis and conclusion.The first part gives an overall introduction to the background,purpose and significance of the translation task.The second part consists of the analysis of the source text and requirements from entrusting party.The third part describes the process of the whole translation.The fourth part analyzes the key points of translation.The fifth part states the translator's reflections of the translation practice and the prospects for future study.In this translation practice,text typology theory proposed by Peter Newmark,a famous Britain translation theorist is adopted by the translator as the theoretical guidance,semantic translation and communicative translation methods as well as some specific translation skills are employed to represent the meaning and style of original text.In addition,the translator,through a number of examples and analyses,analyzes the key points of the translation task from lexical level and syntactic level,specific translation skills such as addition,extension of word's meaning and Chinese Four-Character Idioms are used to deal with difficulties at lexical level,methods of restructuring,division,negation are adopted flexibly to solve problems at syntactic level.Through this translation practice,the translator exercises her translation ability and has a clear understanding of professional translation,and also has a definite goal for future study.She realizes a qualified translator needs to keep up practical skills and maintain strict leaning attitude.
