The translation report was based on the practice in the translation project of The Second World War.The translation project was launched by The Barton Ivan Advertising Culture Communication Company Limited in 2015 and designed to commemorate the 70 th anniversary of the victory of the Second World War.The author participated in the translation of the second volume of this book and selected its two chapters as the source text of this report. The Second World War was composed of six volumes and was written by Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill, the former British Prime Minister. This book possessed great historical value by describing many major global events from the early 1930 s to the end of the Second World War,and besides,it also showed Churchill's politic wisdom through some relevant historical materials. This translation report mainly focused on the analysis of some difficult cases encountered by the author in the translation process and gave a detailed description to the translation steps including before, while and after translation.During the complement of the translation practice, the most difficult point that the author faced was the selection of translation theory and strategy. When analyzing the source text, the author classified it into the informative and expressive text and chose the communicative and semantic translation strategy in the translation process. Finally, the text typology was selected to be the guided translation theory. In the case analysis, the author used the way of comparing two different versions, illustrating translation ideas and showing the translation drafts. At the same time, the author proposed the corresponding solutions to different difficulties.Through the analysis of the difficult cases, the author drew a conclusion that translators should employ different skills when dealing with different sentences on the basis of combining language features of English and Chinese rather than using the same skill blindly.Analyzing the difficult cases was not only propitious to deepen the author's substantial understanding of the translation practice and enrich her translation experience, but also to reflect on the lingual phenomena appearing in the translation, and what's more,it could also provide other translators with references and even made a meager contribution the translation cause.
