Researches of literary translation history,the foundation for professors to write the historical book,have analyzed the variation of literary translation and culture background in different periods.Those researches are essential materials for literary translation history.History of literature translation belongs to the cultural translation.Therefore,the basic requirement of this translation practice is that the author has to faithfully represent contents and meaning of the source text.The Oxford History of English Literary Translation in English is edited by Stuart Gillespie.The author has finished the English to Chinese translation practice based on the second chapter of this book,and the whole book translation is the effort achieved by the teamwork.In China,translation version of this book hasn't been published and few scholars have studied this book from the perspective of translation practice.This translation report summarizes the whole process of translating the book The Oxford History of English Literary Translation in English.Considering the characteristic,language feature and structure of the original text,the author summarizes translation methods under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.This report illustrates the translation methods through some examples in the source texts:The Oxford History of English Literary Translation in English.It included 4 chapters,the first chapter is about introduction.The author introduces the significance and purpose of this translation practice and then discusses the background and basic target of this translation report and also makes a brief introduction towards the source text,The Oxford History of English Literary Translation in English.The second chapter is the pre-translation preparation.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,the author makes preparations for the translation,including parallel text reading,linguistic features and difficulties in the process of translation analyzing.The third chapter is the introduction to translation theory.It contains a brief introduction to the functional equivalence theory,and application of this theory in translating the book The Oxford History of English Literary Translation in English.Chapter four is the case analysis.This chapter is going to discuss with three levels,which included amplification and omission,conversion literal translation and culture-loaded words on the lexical level,repetition,division,reversion on the syntactic level and restructuring and style transference on the discourse level.Chapter five is the conclusion of this translation report.It concludes the experience the author gained from translating this English literary translation book,as well as the problem and inadequacy in the whole translation process.The author has to use the flexible translation skills and methods to address some difficulties in the sources text.The author has to understand various language backgrounds and grasps the basic translation skill thoroughly.
