This paper is a report on the consecutive interpreting for a meeting between Concordia College and the College of Environment of Guangxi University.On 13th June,2016,the author,entrusted by the International Communication Department of Guangxi University,took the task of consecutive interpreting for an interactive meeting between Concordia College and the College of Environment of Guangxi University.This report will focus on task introduction,pre-interpreting preparation,on-site performance and conclusion.In the first chapter,the author will describe the task assignment,its nature and requirements.In the second segment,the author will analyze the state of mind and the preparation effort made by the author during the limited time.In the third segment,the author will analyze the on-site performance and the response to unexpected circumstances.At the last part,the author would make a concise conclusion in light of the author's overall performance regarding this interpreting task.By analyzing this task performance,the author realized the necessity of being a good interpreter.Firstly,right attitude is the prerequisite.Secondly,pre-interpreting preparation,in terms of both expertise knowledge and the mental readiness,plays an essential role in interpreting.Thirdly,language proficiency and interpreting skills are the foundation to be successful for an interpreting task.Fourthly,thoroughly reviewing and drawing lessons from the past experiences can help an interpreter to make faster progress.It all comes to one sentence:interpreting is a long excruciating journey that calls for one step at a time.
