Investigation And Comparative Study On The Teaching Model Of Elementary Chinese At Home And Abroad

Abstract/Summary:
With the improvement of China’s international status,Chinese language becomes more and more popular around the world.At the moment,there are two main forms of Chinese language promotion: one is to study in China,the other one is overseas Confucius Institutes.It’s found that the teaching model of these two forms is very different.However,there are few research results on this aspect.The main research focus is on the theoretical study of teaching model and there are few comparative studies on the teaching model between studying in China and overseas Confucius institutes.This thesis provides empirical study,taking International Exchange College of Nanchang University as the example of studying in China and the Confucius Institute of Antananarivo University,Madagascar as the example of overseas Confucius institutes.The thesis consists of five chapters and the main contents of each chapter are as follows.The first chapter is the introduction,which describes the origin of the study,previous concept of the teaching model of teaching Chinese as foreign language(TCFL),comparative study of the teaching model at home and abroad,research significance,research ideas and methods.The second chapter focuses on investigation and study on the theoretical basis and teaching objectives of model of elementary Chinese teaching at home and abroad.Based on the teaching model theory of TCFL,we have made questionnaire and interview outlines and interviewed the administrators and teachers of the selected examples.From these interviews,we find the rate and the influence of culture expression at home and abroad is totally different due to the different theoretical basis,and also for the teaching methods and teaching goal.The third chapter analyzes the operating procedures and realization conditions of model of elementary Chinese teaching at home and abroad.Based on the questionnaire survey among the learners and teachers,it’s found that the course structure and contents are different at home and abroad,and they use different intermediate language.This thesis analyzes the realization conditions of teaching model from three aspects,i.e.,learners,teachers and textbooks and we find the learners at home and abroad are different in many aspects,like the composition oflearners,study motivations,study methods as well as study environment.Besides,the employment and training of teachers are dissimilar and the selection and contents of textbooks are also different.The fourth chapter evaluates the elementary Chinese teaching model at home and abroad which based on the data of our investigations.The model of overseas elementary Chinese teaching gives priority to cultural activities and combines the activities with teaching.Meanwhile,it pays attention to cultivating local teachers,for the mobility of volunteer Chinese teachers and professional teachers is high.While in the teaching model of studying in China,the curriculums are reasonable,but the teaching arrangements are not scientific and the teaching process is too fast.Besides,the division of classes is unreasonable and professional teachers are deficient,though it has integrated teaching arrangement.Based on the characteristics and shortcomings of the primary Chinese teaching model at home and abroad,the conclusion of this thesis puts forward some suggestions on the elementary Chinese teaching model of Confucius Institutes in Africa and the major universities in ChinaThe fifth chapter is the conclusion,which summarizes the main contents,innovation and shortcomings of the thesis.
