Susan Bassnett is a famous comparatist,Most of her views on comparative literature is in Comparative Literature:A critical Introduction, which was full of consciousness of criticism, question and rethink.Centering on the book and other comparative literature views of Susan Bassnett, there are three parts of her views. The first part is the discussion about the scope of comparative literature.Taking the literature in British Isles for example,Susan Bassnett thinks that there are comparative elements in the same country's literature. The second part is the discussion about the methods of comparative literature. As the postcolonial theory, feminism theory and new historicism combined with the traditional problems of comparative literature, such as travelling literature and thematology,Comparative literature changed its methods. The traditional methods were studying test, while,Susan Bassnett's methods were multicultural, which have a great influence for the later comparative literature. The third part is the discussion about disciplinary orientation and development of comparative literature. The cultural turn of translation made its research fields more and more wide. The relationship between the translation studies and comparative literature changed a lot. Susan Bassnett thinks that the disciplinary orientation of them should be revaluation.Translation studies shouldn't be an affiliated discipline of comparative literature. On the contrary, comparative literature should be an affiliated discipline of the translation studies. The reflection of the history , the rethink of the disciplinary orientation, the discussion of the scope and methods and the forecast of the discipline make Susan Bassnett's views on comparative literature have a great influence on the future development.
