Vocabulary,one of the three basic elements of Chinese language,occupies an important position in teaching chinese as a second language.It is the primary task of learning chinese for both entry-level and higher level foreign students to enlarge the vocabulary.Vocabulary learning runs through all stages of Chinese learning,so no matter in what stage the students are,vocabulary teaching plays an important role.But how to memorize new words and enlarge the vocabulary effectively is the difficult point of intermediate Chinese learners.By investigating the personal situation of an intermediate level student who has a French background,based on the theories and methods of action research,in accordance with the following steps: problem discovery,problem identification,cause analysis,plan design,plan implementation,result analysis,reflection and so on,we are focus on the one-to-one training of the vocabulary learning ability of this student,and we sum up a set of methods and strategies suitable for vocabulary teaching to such kind of students,with a view to provide some experience to teaching chinese as a second language.This paper is divided into four chapters:The first chapter is introduction,which puts forward the purpose and significance of this topic,expounds the current situation of action research and vocabulary teaching,the characteristics and the process of action research,and the object,the method and the process of this research.The second chapter focuses on background investigation and problem analysis of the target student.Through the interviews and the pre-tests,we find out the student's problems and study situation,then we analyzes the causes of the problem and decide the training methods.The third chapter is the implementation of the action research.We design the action plan according to the students' learning characteristics and problems,then we implement this plan and give tests after the training.Finally,we make evaluation and reflection to complete the action research on the vocabulary training of this student.The fourth chapter is the conclusion part.We concludes the advantages and disadvantages of this action research and the shortcomings of this paper.
