Difficulties In Whisper Interpreting And Coping Tactics

This report was based on the author's whisper interpreting practice at the 2016 Symposium on Museum Education for Children.Whisper interpreting requires almost simultaneous interpreting of the original text,therefore,interpreters usually encounter various difficulties,such as high delivery of speed,redundancy,unknown terms,etc.Furthermore,in whisper interpreting,interpreters usually sit next to the audience,comparing with those sitting in the booth,they are often interfered with noises.This report mainly discusses three processes: pre-task preparation,on-site interpreting,and post-task evaluation.In the pre-task preparation process,the author collected relevant background information,built up glossary,and did some simulation exercises.After the author finished her interpreting task,she transcribed the recording,and reflected upon the difficulties she encountered in this interpreting task and came up with some coping tactics in overcoming the difficulties.It is hoped that this report could offer some insightful references to future interpreters who might have interest in whisper interpreting.
