Difficulties In Whisper Interpreting And Coping Tactics

This report describes a whisper interpreting task the author conducted for Nubia new product launching conference.The author mainly interpreted from Chinese to English for the client Doren Denny in this task.This report began with a brief introduction of the task.She also described pre-task preparation and post-task evaluation of this interpreting task.Then,the author analyzed the three kinds of difficulties encountered in whisper interpreting.The first kind of difficulties was caused by languages,including sentences with proverbs or quotations,long and difficult sentences,repetition,sentences with unfamiliar technical terms;the second kind of difficulties was caused by psychological factors,including working under heavy pressure;the third kind of difficulties was caused by environment on scene,including voice control,noise on the spot.Accordingly,the author discussed several coping tactics to overcome the difficulties: approximation,syntactic linearity and anticipation,omission,cooperation of two or more interpreters,summary interpreting,keeping a certain distance with clients and asking people around.It is wished that this report could provide some reference insight for future interpreters who might have interest in whisper interpreting.
