| With the accelerating process of globalization,current demand for professionals in international news trans-editing and translation is growing on the fast track,but relevant research is still rare.Hence a deeper understanding of the market demand for candidates with news trans-editing and translation skills is of instructive significance towards translation training at universities,in particular for those who have set up Master of Translation and Interpreting(MTI)degree in media direction.To fill in the gap of the field,this research report collects job recruitment postings on the Internet,adopting mixed methods of content and textual analysis to investigate the news trans-editing and news translation skills required by different types of employers,positions and other relevant skills.Job advertisements collected in July2016 on four representative domestic recruitment websites(including 51 job.com,Liepin.com,Dajie.com and linkedin.com)show that private-owned enterprises present the strongest need in requiring job-seekers with both news translation and news trans-editing skills,followed by listed companies and foreign-owned companies.Meanwhile,positions of editors and translators are greatly demanded.Supplemented by interviews with experienced recruiters and interns working in some newspapers and English news websites,the research report reveals that previous experience in related fields and good educational background are the first two requirements in positions related to both news trans-editing and news translation.Accordingly,suggestions based on results of recruitment advertisement analysis and interviews are proposed as follows: 1.More courses related to news media should be set up with a pragmatic teaching purpose;2.Skills of managing WeChat operations and HTML5 should be taught;3.Encouraging students to apply for intern programs and increasing intern opportunities for MTI student are vital;4.Certifications inEnglish or in translation are the key to access higher recruitment level. |
