It is important to cultivate students' communicative competence when teaching Chinese as a foreign language.As we know,the ability to express language is a very important part of communicative competence.While in the primary stage of teaching,it is very necessary to help students grasp the structure of Chinese by studying vocabulary and grammar.After that,the students can make some basic sentences but still cannot express themselves in passage.How to help those intermediate students improve their Chinese narrative ability would be a problem we must pay attention to.Unfortunately,there is only a little research about that at present.This paper hopes give a solution to this problem by a comprehensive analysis of the textbook they use and the expressive ability they already have.First of all,through a long period of teaching observation,the author finds out three reasons of why they cannot go beyond in Chinese narrative ability.Firstly,many students do not give more attention to the classroom training and their errors in expression cannot be corrected in time.Secondly,instead of Chinese thinking,they are more willing to solve the express problem by their own mother tongue thinking.Thirdly,a lack of paragraph exercises in textbook also makes a contribution to their weakness in Chinese narrative ability.Furthermore,through collecting and analyzing some corpus they often use in narrative expression,this paper find out three vital factors: connection,coherence,and theme.What's more,based on the previous research and practice in the textbook,this paper also sums up different practice methods for the narrative expression referring to the different types of texts in "development Chinese-intermediate & Chinese oral language(part 2)".In the ending,this paper makes out a summarization about the improving methods in Chinesenarrative skills.
