Strategies For Interpreting Cultural-specific Words-a Report On Internet Interpreting For A Chinese Culture Interview

Internet interpreting is a new form of remote interpreting in recent years.Compared with traditional interpreting, it has the characteristics of higher efficiency,lower cost, free of distance restriction and physical contact between participants. This report is based on the author's internet liaison interpreting practice in October, 2015.By reviewing researches on the Skopos theory, internet interpreting and translation strategies concerning cultural-specific words, the author studied the interpreting strategies used to deal with cultural-specific words in the interpreting practice under the guidance of skopos theory. The author finds out that what mainly affects the selection of interpreting strategies is the function of a particular cultural-specific in the context. Then the interpreter should also look into the purpose of communication and see if it has been well fulfilled. Besides that, the interpreter should also consider the principle of coherence which includes intertextual and intratextual coherence to produce a satisfying output.It is hoped that this report could provide insight for interpreters who may encounter such problems during their interpreting practices.
