QJT is the abbreviation of Lyuyou Quanjingtu, referring to a collection of information on the signboard at the entrance of every tourist attraction, including a brief introduction,a sketch map,and other useful information of the site.As an important component of tourist attractions,QJT is widely considered as an efficient way to inform the visitors of the basic information about the site and promote cultural communication. In recent years, there has been a quick development of tourism industry, however,no enough attention has been paid to QJT translation.QJT is often mistaken as a panorama or a guide map.Various translation problems exist in QJT translation. Therefore,it is becoming increasingly important and necessary to have a systematic study on the C-E translation of QJT.This thesis studies the C-E translation on QJT from the perspective of Text Typology, which focused on the text type and its language function.QJT belongs to the informative and vocative text type with latter the main function which aims to appeal and to attract target visitors' behavior. The author makes a qualitative and quantitative analysis based on 69 QJT in Chinese with English texts and 20 parallel international English texts collected from other countries.By clarifying the definition, learning features of QJT and English TSI,the author analyzes the current translation errors from linguistic, cultural, and pragmatic aspects. In order to improve the translation quality, the whole translation process is divided into three phases, namely before translation, during translating and after translation.A good knowledge of related regulations and policies about tourism lies the first place before translation;visitor-friendly principle provides the effective guidance for translators;suitable readjustment of the content is necessary;linguistic, cultural, and pragmatic problems are to be solved during the translation process;refinement and improvement of the TT are also essential based on visitors' feedback and linguistic and non-linguistic errors check after translation.Significant findings from the thesis are firstly,QJT language must be concise, positive and well-organized;secondly,substantial information should be introduced instead of too much cultural information;thirdly, second person pronoun “You” should be employed more frequently to promote the psychological distance between tourist attractions and visitors;last but not least, bullet layout is preferred. The author hopes that a comprehensive analysis to the translation of QJT will benefit the future studies.
