The translation of Chinese academic monographs helps promote these monographs,theories and ideas to the rest world and acts to strengthen international academic exchanges.And this is a translation report of The History of Chinese Modern Narrative Poems(Chapter3,Section 1 and 2)by Wang Rong.This source text mainly explores the creation and theoretical criticism of Chinese modern narrative poems in the 1930s.Guided by Lin Yutang's translation view,this translation practice of the academic monograph follows the "sentence-oriented" translation principle as well as the standard of "Fidelity,Fluency and Beauty".Therefore,a "sentence" is regarded as a translation unit in this translation practice,and many translation methods and skills are employed so as to conform to the standard of being faithful to the academic content,making it fluent and easy to understand for target language readers.In addition to this,the author tries to represent the quintessence of the source text.Based on the translation practice,therefore,the author mainly studies skills and methods of translation from the level of sentence.And it is expected to help the translation of long sentences in academic monographs.This translation report is divided into five parts.First,it introduces the project background,source text,and the significance of the subject.Second,the whole translation process is summarized.Third,it explains the guidance and application of Lin Yutang's translation view in this translation practice.Fourth,according to Lin Yutang's translation view,the "sentence-oriented" translation principle,it generalizes patterns and characteristics of sentences and analyzes typical,long sentences.As well as this,it summarizes the corresponding translation strategies in detail and explores the effect of such kind of translation.Fifth,it concludes the author's experience of the translation and analyzes parts that are insufficient.Under the guidance of Lin Yutang's practical translation view,this translation report is intended to provide easy-to-use methods and experience for translators of long and complex sentences in academic works.
