This thesis is a report on the E-C translation of Reborn(from Chapter One to Seven)by Renato Ferreira who is a very famous businessman in America. The source text has been very popular since published in 2013,and hundreds of thousands of people in the western countries have benefited a lot from it.This source text describes the leading character's life before and after his success in the third person tone.It tells some true stories and has great educational and academic significance. No Chinese translation version can be found yet,so translating this text into Chinese is a meaningful experience to the translator. The characteristics of this source text are very distinct. At the level of language, the translator focuses on lexicon and syntax. In the aspect of lexicon, there are a large number of proper names presented in the source text, such as culture-loaded words, figures' and places' names, and some famous brands.Besides,non-finite verbs are frequently used to play different roles in sentences. In the aspect of syntax, most sentences are simple and intelligible, but some of them imply profound meanings. There is no lack of substantive clauses, attributive clauses and other long and complicated sentences, which bring bunch of trouble to translating. At the level of text structure:at the beginning of each chapter, the main idea is presented clearly by quoting famous sayings. Some chapters are introduced by a suspense and disclosed in later chapters. The translator applies transliteration to translate proper names of figures and places, annotation to deal with some culture-loaded words, and adoption of the established popular tranlated proper names to translate some words whose chinese meanings translated by other people have already been accepted by the public for a long time.Other word translation techniques of repetition, conversion, amplification, and omission are applied. The translator translates attributive clauses by pre-position,post-position,and other sentences by separation and combination, free translation, and application of four-character idioms. When starting to translate, the translator tries his/her best to take the original language characteristics and culture background into account as far as possible to make sure that the translation would be consistent with the original in meaning, language characteristics and writing style, etc. After finishing the translation, which really contributes to future good translation, the translator hopes that Chinese readers could enjoy a comparatively satisfying translation, and realizes that grasping characteristics of source texts is the first step to achieving a good translation. In addition, understanding each translation technique or method is very important but applying them appropriately in practice is more significant.
