The Process Of The Management Of Translation Projects Undertaken By Translation Students

For translation students,it is an important and effective way to improve their translation skills by working on real-life translation projects,and it is indeed becoming increasingly common that translation students supply translation service for direct clients or translation companies.To deliver a successful translation project,whether it's undertaken by in-house translators of translation companies or translation students,effective and efficient project management is always required.Most studies on translation project management,however,are based on projects that are completed inside translation companies,with few literature focused on the management of translation projects undertaken by students.The aim of this thesis is to propose an efficient management process and good managing practices specific to translation projects undertaken by translation students.The case studied herein is the translation of a book from Chinese into English,which was done by translation students at Graduate Institute of Interpreting and Translation,Shanghai International Studies University.In the study,the workflow of the translation project is divided into four stages--the launch,the planning,the implementation and the follow-up,and the management work is reviewed stage by stage.By examining the management throughout the project and the results,problems which had significantly adverse impact on the performance of the project team are identified and solutions are proposed.It is hoped that this thesis will offer helpful guidance for the management of similar translation projects undertaken by students.
