This is a report on the translation of Early Rome:Myth and Society by Jaclyn Neel,of which Chapter 2 is the source text of the Chinese version presented in Appendix ?.The source text foucuses on the establishment of the city of Rome,introducing not only the relevant mythical characters and stories,but also the source of the name of Rome.The report is divided into four chapters: Chapter 1 is an introduction to the project,including its background,objectives,significance and structure of the report.Chapter 2 is an introduction to the source text,including the author introduction,publishing facts and main contents of the source text.The source text is categorized into the informative text.The translation of such a text should focus on accuracy and readability.Chapter 3 introduces the theoretical basis including the choice,introducion and application of the translation theory.This report takes Nida's functional equivalence as its theoretical basis and with own translation practice the translator explore its guiding role in the translation process.Chapter 4 focuses on the translation difficulties and thier solutions.Chapter 5 concludes what the translator gains from the report and those unsolved problems.
