The source text of the translation project is chapter 7 and chapter 8 of Global Perspectives on Teaching Excellence: A New Era for Higher Education, edited by Christine Broughan,Lynn Clouder and Graham Steventon. The source text advocates teaching excellence in response to the common problem of valuing research over teaching in Australian universities. It mainly introduces the teaching excellence evaluation system established by some Australian universities, several representative teaching awards and teaching award winner groups. The translator attempts to translate it into Chinese according to Functional Equivalence Theory proposed by Eugene A.Nida, hoping to bring some enlightenment to Chinese higher education. There are five chapters in the translation report.Chapter one introduces the background and significance of the project and the structure of the report.Chapter two analyzes the source text, introducing editors of the symposium, authors of chapter 7 and 8,main contents, text type and linguistic features of the source text.Chapter three introduces Functional Equivalence Theory and its application in the process of translation.Chapter four analyzes difficulties encountered in the translation practice and corresponding solutions.Chapter five summarizes the lessons that the translator learned in the translation practice and the problems to be solved.
