As a complicated disease which could cause a long term disability, Cerebral palsy not only negatively impacts physical and mental health of sufferers, but also increases the financial burden and stress for families. However, China's social assistance system for cerebral palsy sufferers is far from complete. Nowadays, the assistance from non-profit charities and foundations is more like one-way “blood transfusions”. This assistance method significantly undervalues the severity of influences on patients and their families' mental health. Thus, the lack of technical expertise, the lack of practical experience and the shortage of professionals all prove that a new method for assisting cerebral patients and their families should be discussed and implemented immediately.After collected, rearranged and analyzed the domestics and foreign literatures and researches in this region, the author selected Yao Yao, a cerebral palsy patient, and her family as a research sample, and aided the patient normalize the structure of her household. Through the professional perspective of a social worker, the author made families more fulfilling and harmonious, which provided a mentally and physically better environment for patient to stabilize the patient's condition by communicating and solving the problems on a case- by- case basis under the circumstances of obeying the ethical standards of social works. By analyzing this case, the author concluded several practical methods and suggestions on how social workers should act to help cerebral palsy patients and their families. This research provides suggestions for social workers on practical works and supplements for the development of social works, which provides some new ideas and contributions for the development of an innovative social assistance system for those affected by social disadvantages.
