Objective. The relationship among parents' way of upbringing, self-supporting personality and career maturity is studied to help secondary vocational students understand their career maturity so as to provide career education and guidance timely and effectively.Methods. The Chinese revision of Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) developed by Yang Hong-jun and Zhou Shi-jie, Juvenile Student Self-Supporting Personality Inventory designed by Xia Ling-xiang and Huang Xi-ting, and Career Maturity Inventory developed by Sun Zhong-shan are adopted. Students from three secondary vocational technical schools in Huaibei are selected for the survey of parents' way of upbringing, self-supporting personality and career maturity, with SPSS16.0 used for statistical data analysis.Results.(1) The career maturity of secondary vocational students shows statistical significance in gender in view of personal adjustment, professional attitude, value and condition evaluation. Each dimension of career maturity shows statistical significance in profession. The dimension of information application is statistically significant in grade. The dimension of condition evaluation is statistically significant in origin of student. The dimensions of self-knowledge and condition evaluation are statistically significant in family economic condition.(2) Secondary vocational students are significantly different in gender in the dimension of father's encouragement and support. Dimensions of parents' way of upbringing present no difference in grade and family economic condition. There exists difference in profession in the dimension of father's love, in origin of student in the dimension of father's control, in father's educational level in the dimension of father's control, in father's career in the dimensions of father's encouragement and father's love. Parents' way of upbringing shows no difference in mother's career and mother's educational level.(3) Most dimensions of the self-supporting personality show difference in gender. There exists difference in grade in the dimensions of individual independence, individual initiative and individual flexibility, in profession in the dimensions of interpersonal independence, interpersonal openness, individual independence and individual initiative, in origin of student in the dimension of individual initiative, and in family economic condition in the dimensions of interpersonal independence and interpersonal initiative.(4) Mother's love and father's love in parents' way of upbringing are in significant positive correlation with career maturity. Mother's encouragement and support as well as father's encouragement and support are in significant positive correlation with most dimensions of career maturity. Mother's control and father's control are in significant negative correlation with all dimensions of career maturity. Except for individual flexibility that is negatively correlated with career maturity, the other nine dimensions of self-supporting personality are in significant positive correlation with career maturity. Mother's love, mother's encouragement, father's love and father's encouragement are positively correlated with most dimensions of self-supporting personality. Mother's control and father's control are negatively correlated with most dimensions of self-supporting personality.(5) The multivariate regression analysis of the relationship between dimensions of parents'way of upbringing and self-supporting personality with secondary vocational students'career maturity finds significant positive role of father's love, interpersonal self-reliance and individual independence in predicting career maturity.Conclusion Secondary vocational students'career maturity is closely related to parents' way of upbringing and self-supporting personality.
