Information technology is playing an increasingly important role in all the social fields. The relationship between the human life and information technology is becoming more and more closely. Information technology is having a great influence on education of primary and secondary schools, especially the integration of information technology and subject teaching has formed a totally new teaching model. It brings new demands and challenges to the traditional teaching concept and curriculum, especially teacher's roles in the traditional classroom teaching has been challenged greatly. In this new teaching model, teachers must comply with the demands of the integration of information technology and subject teaching, transforming their roles and adapting to the demands that the new model brings to us preferably. However, the transformation of teachers' roles is not all active and positive, if this transformation is absent or not in place, it certainly will influence the teaching effect of the integration of information technology and subject teaching. This research makes an exploring study on the problem of teachers' role transformation in the integration of information technology and subject teaching, and attempts to answer the following questions: in the new teaching model, what factors will influence teachers' role transformation, what is the connotation and extension of this transformation, and how to solve the problems that this transformation brings to us. Through the study we can find that in the teaching model of integration of information technology and English, teachers' roles should transform from“teaching” to “construction”, from “answering questions” to “guidance”, from “direction” to“participation”. Transforming educational ideas, correcting the understanding of new teaching model, strengthening the ability of information technology and improving self-equality and psychological adaptability are the key factors of teachers' role transformation, all of which are countermeasures of promoting positive transformation of teachers' roles and intensifying positive effect of teachers' new roles. This thesis is divided into six chapters: The first chapter introduces the research question and background, and the purpose, significance, content and structure of this thesis. It forms the research foundation of this thesis. The third chapter is the theoretical foundation, it introduces three theories which support the transformation of teacher's roles with the assistance of information technology:Inter-subjectivity Theory, Constructive Learning Theory, Humanism Learning Theory. The forth chapter makes a comparative analysis between the teacher's roles in traditional classroom teaching and information technology-assisted teaching, and summarizes the reasons, psychological confusion and significance of transformation of teacher's roles.
