In modern society, more and more information record and communication will be conveyed to people by the means of image, from static image to 3D animation and written record to image transmission. Compared with other senses of human beings, visual sense is occupying an increasingly preferential position. Due to the rapid development of image culture, image is having an increasingly larger influence on people's visual sense. However, without relatively strong value judgment or the ability to select information, it is hard for the public to correctly tell rightness from wrongness and beauty from ugliness facing complicated image information brought by the current image culture background. Not knowing how to make rational selection, elementary school students surrounded by various kinds of image information tend to have confused tendency of interest and will negatively accept the information. Therefore, under the background of image culture, it is particularly necessary to strengthen researches on interest-oriented art teaching. The society where we live is a visualized society, thus, we face numerous and endless image information. In order to form a favorable aesthetic taste, there should be more guidance in art education and teachers should constantly cultivate and improve students ability in art appreciation. In short, interest-oriented art teaching means “teaching through lively activities” and making monotonous art theories visualized and vivid. By describing the current image culture background, with students as the objects, the paper explores the relationship between three different concepts, namely images, interest and art classroom teaching. It points out the influence of image culture on elementary school students and its importance in interest-oriented teaching in elementary school fine arts education.Diversified teaching methods and means are applied to create a relaxing and pleasant learning atmosphere for students and improve their interest in fine art so that students can learn happily in class, give full play to their creativity and improve their learning efficiency. At present, traditional exam-oriented educational ideas and teaching models are no longer suitable for the current image era. Elementary school fine arts education is woefully inadequate in the aspect of interest. Therefore, the author probes into interest-oriented art classroom teaching so as to provide feasible strategies to realize interest-oriented art class.
